lyrics

Nineteen hundred fifty six,
the interstate was carved and like a capilary, flow.
And on the very first road atlas,
clear as glass we saw a city called Agloe.

Cities don’t appear from nowhere.
Yes, the liars and the thieves had copied.
Back roads don’t come out of thin air,
but we did.
Our home away from home returned
and Agloe stood again.

Well the copyright trap drew them down, and
Rand McNally fell through pits hidden by undergrowth.
So we drew them to the courthouse,
just to hear the explanation under oath.

But their lawyers held convincing,
that our exploit was coincidence pro rata.
For the city we named Agloe,
also does appear on census data.

Cities don’t appear from nowhere,
but this one did.
The liars and the thieves were null, yet
backroads still don’t come from thin air
yet we did,
our home away from home returned and

Agloe was but figment of imagination,
one so small, forgettable, and bland.
Yet the trap that we called Agloe
somehow had a population here on land.

And so the search began.
