about

This was a semi-sardonic "protagonist of industry" song that takes place in everyone's favorite forested Canadian provence. The cloudy accordions and general smokestackiness took it to a place none of us really expected. Julia didn't speak a word of French at the time we recorded it, so everything was written phonetically (kand laa noo-osh-ess form-ant nat-rule-mont) to ensure clarity. After a few hours, we got it.

And, just in case you were curious, that line literally translates to "When the clouds start forming naturally." Ironically, our first performance of this song took place during an incredibly smoky fire at New York City's Yippie Cafe. The fire marshalls came. We finished the song. Then we evacuated.

lyrics
