lyrics

Cartographer stumbles
to the mapmaking corporation
Tasked with putting on paper
a world that circles ‘round,
But we live on a flat Earth,
and in an industry of thieves and liars
and still we try our best to get it off the ground.

America’s frontier is expanding,
nineteen hundred and thirty three.
The time to put the pen to paper’s now.
The mapmaker’s got the work ahead of them
Until the worldview changes up again,
geography’s not copyrightable.

We developed a plan
Protect our map from all the thieves and liars,
A trap to ensnare them
in a world of legal fees
We’d invent a city,
not big enough to draw attention
and if it was copied, everyone would see.

A microcosmic, quite forgettable
patch of houses on the side of the road.
Tucked into the back woods of New York.
A town population so low
seems almost fictional
My nonexistent home away from home.

And so it was invented
Agloe, New York.
