I was born on a trap street
of this paper town.
and I spend all my time here,
this page to wander around.
But the land that I live on
is passing its prime.
A city’s constructed,
a city degrades.
A map that is printed,
eventually fades.
But the map that I stand on
is a product of time
As the old paper corners have started to wear,
and the crease down the backroad developed a tear
and the ink that fades faster than you’d ever know.
For a paper town’s only as strong as the cellulose under our feet
and the indelibility of the trap street
with a bit of neglect, a paper will burn.
One day we’ll be forgotten,
we’ll be dust in the last.
Just a cordial fragment
of cartography past.
But as ideas vanish,
other ones grow.
An artist’s depiction,
of a world that they dream,
a world that they hoped for,
or so it may seem.
But all dreams go the way
of the American Town
